Cafeteria Tables > Seating Capacity (Max) - 4 People

A cafeteria table provides durable, high-capacity seating for dining and break areas in schools, offices, healthcare facilities, and correctional settings. Most models seat 4 to 12 occupants per table depending on length and configuration, with attached-seat and folding variants available alongside standalone table designs. The tabletop surface — laminate, high-pressure laminate, or blow-molded polyethylene — is selected for resistance to spills, heat, and repeated cleaning cycles throughout a service day. Configuration should be matched to the daily meal volume and turnover rate expected in the space before an order is placed.

Rectangular tables run 6, 8, or 12 feet in length and 30 inches wide, seating 8, 10, or 12 occupants depending on length selected. Round tables run 48 to 60 inches in diameter, seating 4 to 8 occupants around the perimeter. Table height sits at the standard 29 to 30 inches for adult seating, with 22 to 24-inch elementary-height variants available for school cafeteria use. Length and seating capacity should be matched to the headcount and turnover schedule expected in the dining space before ordering.

Fold-and-roll models fold the tabletop and attached seats into a compact vertical position on a wheeled base, allowing storage against a wall between meal periods in multi-purpose rooms. This configuration suits gymnasiums, multi-purpose rooms, and banquet halls needing to reclaim floor space for other activities between meal services. Locking casters hold the folded unit in place during storage and release for repositioning when needed. Fixed-leg models suit dedicated cafeteria rooms where the space is not reused for other purposes during the day.

Attached-seat models combine table and benches into a single unit for fast setup and simplified daily cleaning in high-turnover dining rooms. Standalone tables paired with separate stools or chairs suit settings needing seating flexibility, such as a room that hosts both dining and other functions on different days. Attached-seat units generally hold up better under correctional and high-security requirements, where separate furniture pieces present a security and tamper risk that a single welded unit avoids entirely, since nothing can be pulled loose and repositioned or used as a weapon.

Tabletop static load capacity runs 200 to 400 pounds evenly distributed across the surface, depending on material and frame construction. Attached bench seating carries a per-seat rating of 250 to 300 pounds under BIFMA-aligned commercial testing standards. Rated capacity should be checked against the daily occupant load and use intensity expected in the dining space, particularly in school and correctional settings where tables see continuous heavy use across multiple seatings throughout a single day of service without downtime between groups.

High-pressure laminate tops resist scratching, staining, and heat better than standard laminate, and suit high-volume dining settings with frequent tray and hot-dish contact. Blow-molded polyethylene tops resist moisture and impact damage, common in outdoor and correctional dining settings exposed to harsher conditions. Powder-coated steel frames provide the structural base across most commercial models sold today. Surface material should be checked against the cleaning protocol and food-contact frequency expected in the dining space before a series is selected for an order.

Seating capacity per table should be checked against the total headcount and available floor area first, before comparing finish or fold features. Fold-and-roll configurations suit rooms needing floor space reclaimed between meal periods, while fixed-leg configurations suit dedicated dining rooms with no competing use. Attached-seat units simplify cleaning and reduce loose furniture in high-security settings, while standalone table-and-chair combinations offer greater seating flexibility for rooms serving more than one daily function throughout a facility's schedule and event calendar, a distinction worth weighing before finalizing an order.

Cafeteria tables ship LTL freight on a pallet, weighing 100 to 300 pounds per unit depending on length, material, and attached-seat configuration. Field assembly — leg and seat-bracket attachment — takes 30 to 90 minutes per table with two staff members and a power driver. Fold-and-roll models arrive with the folding mechanism pre-assembled, reducing on-site labor relative to fixed-leg models. Dock and doorway dimensions should be confirmed ahead of delivery, particularly for 12-foot rectangular units moving through standard interior doorways.

Commercial cafeteria tables tested to applicable BIFMA standards carry a 5 to 10-year warranty against consumer-tier tables at 1 to 2 years, and we offer a Free Lifetime Warranty unless specifically noted. Coverage extends to the frame welds, the tabletop substrate, and the folding mechanism where applicable across the unit's service life. These are the components under the heaviest daily stress in school and correctional dining settings, and terms should be checked against the facility's procurement standard before a bulk order is placed.

ADA cafeteria layouts require at least 5 percent of seating positions, and no fewer than one per table grouping, to provide 27-inch knee clearance and 30 by 48 inches of clear floor space for wheelchair users. Table height at the standard 29 to 30 inches falls within the accessible range without modification for most rectangular and round models. Accessible positions should be distributed across the dining room rather than clustered in one corner, and the layout should be documented in the facility's floor plan to confirm compliant spacing.
