A cubicle is a modular panel-based workstation system defined by panel height, footprint size, worksurface configuration, and storage integration. Standard footprints run 4 by 4 feet for touchdown use, 5 by 5 feet for call-center use, 6 by 6 feet for standard workstations, 6 by 8 feet for mid-tier positions, and 8 by 8 feet for senior or manager stations. Footprint selection should follow task density and the available floor plate, since a footprint too generous for the role wastes floor area across a full deployment.

Panels come in four standard heights: 42 inches, offering low, collaborative openness when standing; 53 inches, offering partial seated privacy with openness when standing; 65 inches, offering full seated privacy; and 85 inches, offering full standing privacy with acoustic control. Panel height should be matched to the privacy requirement and noise-control needs of the workforce, since mixing panel heights across a floor is common where different roles have different focus and collaboration needs. A team handling confidential calls generally needs taller panels than a team working mainly in shared, collaborative tasks throughout the day.

Worksurfaces come in L-shape, U-shape, and straight rectangular layouts, with optional return wings and corner extensions for monitor and reference document placement. Height is fixed at 29 inches on standard configurations or adjustable across 24 to 50 inches on sit-stand integrated cubicles. Configuration and height option should follow the ergonomic requirements set for the workforce occupying each station, since sit-stand integration adds cost that only makes sense where a specific ergonomic need calls for it. A call-center role and a design role, for instance, typically warrant different worksurface configurations within the same building.

Cubicle panels carry pre-wired raceways at the panel base and beltline, accepting 8-wire MC cable for 4 circuits of power plus Cat6 data lines, terminating at receptacles on the panel face. The power and data layout should be matched to the facility's electrical and IT design before installation begins. A reconfiguration vendor should be engaged at the move stage to track panel inventory, panel-to-panel connections, and electrical and data re-certification before the space is put back into use. Reconfiguration is generally treated as a separate cost line in a facility's procurement budget rather than folded into the original purchase, since the scope and labor involved vary significantly by project size and by how much the floor plan changes between the original layout and the new one.

Cubicles ship LTL on multiple pallets, spanning 8 to 30 cartons per workstation depending on footprint and panel count. Total install weight runs 400 to 1,200 pounds per workstation, which should factor into loading dock and freight elevator planning ahead of delivery. A dealer-installer is generally required for the build, since panel-to-panel alignment, electrical raceway integration, and worksurface mounting call for trained installation crews familiar with the specific system. Installation typically runs 4 to 12 hours per workstation, scaling with panel count and configuration complexity across the deployment.

Panels come in fabric-wrapped finishes, which are tackable and sound-absorbing with multiple color options, or laminate-faced finishes, which are cleanable with a more modern aesthetic. Fabric panels suit open-plan deployments where the panel doubles as a tackable note surface for pinning documents and reminders. Laminate panels suit modern minimalist programs prioritizing a clean, wipeable look over sound absorption. An ADA-accessible cubicle requires a 36-inch accessible doorway, a 30 by 48 inch clear floor space at the worksurface, 27 inches of knee clearance under the worksurface, and a 36-inch accessible path approaching the cubicle. An ADA-adjustable height worksurface should be specified for designated accessible cubicles, with the position recorded in the facility's floor plan so accessible stations remain identifiable during future reconfigurations. At least one accessible cubicle per cluster is a reasonable planning target, adjusted upward depending on the size of the workforce and the specific accessibility needs of the occupants assigned to that area.
