End Tables > Materials - Metal

An end table is a side table positioned beside a sofa, loveseat, or lounge chair in a lobby, reception area, or executive office. It provides a landing surface for a lamp, phone, or reading material next to soft seating. Top dimensions run 18 to 24 inches square or round, and height runs 22 to 26 inches to align with the adjacent sofa arm. Material selection should follow the same family as the paired soft-seating and coffee-table pieces so the grouping reads as a coordinated set rather than mismatched furniture.

Top dimensions run 18 to 24 inches square or round, with height set at 22 to 26 inches off the floor. That height range is chosen to match the adjacent sofa or lounge chair arm height, producing a level, coordinated sight line across the seating group. Height mismatches between the end table and the seating piece it flanks tend to look accidental rather than intentional, so this pairing should be checked before finalizing a lobby layout. Overall footprint stays compact enough to fit tightly beside seating without crowding the walkway.

Wood veneer over an engineered core suits an executive lobby aesthetic. HPL suits a hard-use waiting room where surface durability matters more than warmth of finish. Tempered glass suits a modern lobby look, metal suits an industrial aesthetic, and stone — granite, marble, or quartz — suits an upscale executive program. Top material should generally match the adjoining soft-seating family and the coffee table in the same grouping, since mismatched materials within a cluster tend to undercut an otherwise coordinated lobby design.

A single-shelf base adds a surface for magazine or reading-material storage beneath the top. A two-tier construction adds a display surface for decorative objects. A solid pedestal base suits a minimal aesthetic where visual clutter beneath the top is undesirable. Base style should be weighed against the surrounding lobby setting — the sofa, the coffee table, and any adjacent case goods — so the overall grouping presents a unified look rather than a collection of unrelated pieces. Matching base style consistently across every end table in a lobby cluster is a small detail that has an outsized effect on how coordinated the finished space appears.

The top load rating is 30 to 50 pounds evenly spread. That range comfortably accommodates a lamp, a phone, a beverage, and typical lobby-table contents such as framed reference material. It is not intended for heavier equipment; a printer or speaker belongs on a storage cabinet or credenza rather than an end table top. Even distribution matters more than raw capacity at this scale, since a concentrated load near an edge stresses the joinery differently than the same weight spread across the surface.

Matching the top material and base style between the end table and coffee table keeps the seating grouping visually unified. End table height at 22 to 26 inches sits above coffee table height at 16 to 20 inches, producing a deliberate stepped sight line rather than a flat, uniform one. Sourcing both pieces from the same product line is the most reliable way to guarantee finish consistency, since separately sourced pieces occasionally show slight variation in stain or laminate batch even when described identically.

A table lamp 24 to 30 inches tall positions the bulb at 46 to 56 inches above the floor, a range well suited to ambient lobby lighting rather than task lighting. A built-in power outlet or grommet integrated into the end table top or base manages the lamp cord and keeps it off the walking surface. This detail matters most in reception areas where a visible cord running across the floor undercuts an otherwise polished presentation. Confirming outlet placement before ordering avoids retrofitting an extension cord later, which tends to undercut the polished appearance a lobby setting is meant to project.

Standard end table height of 22 to 26 inches works beside an ADA-accessible seating position without modification, since the top surface falls within the ADA forward-reach range of 15 to 48 inches. Placement should avoid obstructing the 36-inch accessible path expected to run through the lobby. The table's footprint needs particular attention where the accessible seating position sits close to a primary walkway, since even a compact end table can narrow that path below the required clearance. Reviewing this pairing early in the layout process, rather than after furniture has already been placed, avoids a costly rearrangement once the accessible path is measured.

Commercial end tables tested to the applicable BIFMA standard carry a 10 to 15-year warranty against consumer-tier tables at 1 to 3 years, but we offer a Free Lifetime Warranty unless specifically noted. Coverage extends to the top, the base, the leg leveling glides, and the edge profile — the components most exposed to daily lobby wear. Warranty terms should be reviewed against the facility procurement standard, particularly where end tables are ordered as part of a larger soft-seating suite.

End tables suit executive office lobbies, corporate reception areas, hotel lobbies, conference room waiting areas, healthcare and clinic waiting rooms, and law-firm lounges. Top material should be matched to expected use intensity — wood veneer for lower-traffic settings, HPL for higher-traffic rooms where surface durability outweighs finish warmth. Placement near an ADA-accessible seating position should preserve the required 36-inch accessible path and keep the tabletop within the ADA forward-reach range of 15 to 48 inches, so accessibility and facility fit are addressed together rather than as separate considerations during layout planning.
